Hi everyone,
I’m Daniel Stott, the Manager of Participation for Orienteering Australia, and I’m reaching out to ask for your help in shaping the future of our sport.
We’ve launched the Orienteering Research Survey – a short 3–5 minute survey designed to help us understand how to make orienteering more welcoming, accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
We’d love every orienteer to complete it. Your feedback is incredibly valuable and will directly influence how we grow participation, support clubs and promote the sport over the next five years.
Please also encourage your household members to complete the survey – and if you have children, complete it again with them — we want to hear their voices too!
When you complete the survey, you’ll also go into the draw to win one of our fantastic prizes, including:
🏃♂️ Orienteering shoes (worth $250)
🗺️ SPORTident AIR
🧭 Top-quality thumb compass
👕 Orienteering top
🎁 $50 Outdoor Adventure Shop vouchers (50 to give away!)
Then, please share the survey with your friends, family and colleagues! If five people name you as their referrer, you’ll receive a $20 outdoor adventure shop voucher as a thankyou. You may want to use these text examples:

We hope this survey opens up opportunities for you to talk with your friends about orienteering — what makes it fun, what might stop them trying it and how we can make it easier for them to give it a go. These conversations often lead to invitations — and new people discovering the adventure of orienteering!
Why it matters: The results will guide how we shape the orienteering experience for newcomers, inform the next Orienteering Participation Plan (2026–2029), influence programs like Learn to Orienteer and Come and Try It, and determine how we market orienteering across Australia over the next five years.

Flyers: You might see some flyers at an event during October, please take some to share with your friends.
Thank you for taking a few minutes to help shape the future of orienteering.
Warm regards,
Daniel Stott
