You think you know the mountain? For the last 6 months, Basil dog and I have been exploring the lesser known foothills of kunanyi/Mount Wellington to set the Lenah Valley Hop: a 3 or 6 hour rogaine (like orienteering but with an emphasis on strategy - you can pick and choose the checkpoints you visit, each worth a different number of points). You don’t have to be an athlete to have heaps of fun. You can walk, dance, or run the course. It’s a team activity so bring your friends, your family (not the fur children, unfortunately), turn off the smart phone and embrace the joy of finding stuff just with a map. There are even special prizes for first-timers.
It’s a Q&A style thing (eg. How many cows in the John Turnbull Park mural). I’ve gone out of my way to include novel and interesting features in both the streets of Lenah Valley and the surrounding bush (think street libraries, public art, topiaries, ruins, superb spurs, and beautiful boulders), although most of the points will be found at the temporary markers in the bush.
