SEA:
TT Line operates 2 ferries (Spirit of Tasmania I and II) on an overlapping nightly service across Bass Strait.  Ferries leave Melbourne at 8.00 pm and berth in Devonport at 7.00 am every night of the week.  Devonport is approximately 100 km from Launceston, the road being divided highway much of the way.  Fares vary depending on the level of on-board accommodation desired,  ranging from cabins to reclining airline style seats.

TT Line has offered to provide a special rate for orienteers travelling to Tasmania for the carnival who book from 7 November onwards. In summary the deal involves a discount of 5% on cabin rates for sailings on or after 8 April 2009. They have indicated that they will also offer a 20% discount on cabin rates for sailings before 8 April.

The rates for orienteers travelling up to 8 April 2009 are shown HERE, on or after 8 April 2009 are shown HERE and a booking form is provided HERE.

Please also note that Spirit of tasmania I and II will be offering daylight sailings (approximately 9.00 am - 6.00 pm) on 9, 10, 13 and 14 April 2009.

HIRE AND DRIVE:
Hire and drive vehicles are available and can be picked up at Launceston Airport.

AutoRent Hertz is a Launceston based Tasmanian owned car rental business which has a long history of supporting major orienteering events in the state. Since the VWC (now WMOC) in 1992 to Easter 2009, AutoRent Hertz has sponsored all major events endeavouring to provide our visitors with good value rentals, and assisting the organisation through various forms of sponsorship. Wherever possible Orienteering Tasmania seeks to involve local businesses in their events. No other Tasmanian company, has provided such sustained sponsorship of major orienteering events.

For Easter 2009, AutoRent Hertz is offering visitors the best car rental deal possible (in comparison with other major car rental firms operating in the state). Anyone planning to rent a car for the carnival should bear in mind that Easter is a high rental period, and that there is a finite number of vehicles available in the state. You are advised to book early.
