Changes to the WADA Prohibited List
9 Feb 2007
All athletes running in elite classes should consult the attached documents for changes to the World Anti Doping Agency prohibited list in 2007. Of particular interest to asthmatics is a slight change in the classification of salbutamol (the active ingredient in ventolin the most common asthma medication). As of 2007 if you test over a certain level you need to show a medical reason why you needed to take so much. Normal clinical doses will be below the limit.

All athletes are advised to re-check the status of any medication in accordance with the 2007 Prohibited List. A product that was permitted in the past may now be prohibited. Athletes can check medications by calling the ASADA Anti-Doping Hotline 1800 020 506, or refer to the ASADA website www.asada.gov.au.

World Anti-Doping Code 2007 Prohibited List
31 Oct 2006
This information is especially important for Tasmanians who compete at elite level and/or are members of one of our National Teams.

The World Anti-Doping Code 2007 Prohibited List is now available on the WADA website: http://www.wada-ama.org/en/prohibitedlist.ch2. The 2007 list will come into effect on January 1st 2007, until that time the 2006 Prohibited List remains effective. This web page includes the 2007 Prohibited List, 2007 Monitoring Program and a summary of major modifications.

The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) encourages State Organisations, team managers, medical officials and athletes to familiarise themselves with the new list, and reminds athletes it is their responsibility to check the status of any medication prior to use. ASADA recommends that all athletes re-check the status of their medications periodically. This can be done by calling the Anti-Doping Hotline on  1800 020 506 or referring to the medications list on the ASADA website www.asada.gov.au which provides information about Australian Pharmaceutical products and their status in sport.

ASADA will be publishing the 2007 version of the Anti-Doping Handbook which will be available in early 2007.

Please do not hesitate to contact ASADA if you have any further questions
