(Sun): MTBNav-Bush 2/4 Hour Bike/Foot - Pillies Road,
Ellendale
Location:
Pillies Road is some 81kms from Hobart, about 14 kms north of Westerway, 5 kms
north of Ellendale, and 5 kms south of Meadowbank
Lake in the Derwent Valley, and runs to the west off Ellendale Road. Look for
the street and orienteering signs at the junction of Pillies
Road and Ellendale Road, then follow the orienteering signs along Pillies Road to the assembly area. Thanks to Norske Skog
and Forestry Tasmania for access to the forests.
Description:
This event will be conducted
under Rogaining principles with Teams of two to five
persons. There is a choice of going by bike or on foot, for two hours or four
hours. Course area is quite extensive with many smooth tracks that are good
riding as well as some steep tracks. The area is generally undulating. Much of
the area is pine forest, although there is also a deal of open eucalypt forest
and grassland.
Event Type:
A score event where
participants on bike or on foot devise their own route to visit as many
controls and gain as many points as possible within the time limit. Points are
deducted if returning late. Only Teams may enter, although solo riders can also
enter and organisers will try to place them with a
Team. Team members must stay within 20 metres of each other at all times
Courses:
Teams devise their own course.
The map covers two A3 sheets.
Start Times:
Both bike and foot participants
start at the same time, those in the four hour beginning at 10.30am and those
in the two hour at 12.30pm. Everyone finishes at 2.30pm. Maps will be available
from 9.00am for all participants.
Entry:
Only pre-entry via “entryhub” is acceptable. Enter on the day is unavailable.
Entry in both the bike and foot categories is open to anyone. As the event is
conducted under the auspices of Rogaining Tasmania,
casual or full membership of Orienteering Tasmania is not applicable.
Entry Fees:
Entry cost is adult $50 and
junior / concession $40. Junior is under 21 as at 31/12/10.
Facilities:
There will be a toilet at the
assembly area, but no other facilities. The entry fee includes hot and cold
food at the conclusion of the event which will be available from 2.00pm. There
are no shops nearby, the closest being Ellendale and Westerway.
