May 16th (Sun): Local MTBNav event - Dry Poles Road,
Ellendale
Location:
Dry Poles Road is some 72kms from
Hobart, about four kms south of Ellendale, 5kms north
of Westerway, and some 14kms south of Meadowbank Lake in the Derwent Valley, and runs to the west
off Ellendale Road. Look for the street and orienteering signs at the junction
of Dry Poles Road and Ellendale Road, then follow the orienteering signs along
Dry Poles Road to the assembly area. Thanks to Norske Skog, Gunns
and Forestry Tasmania for access to the forests.
Description:
Course area is mainly pine
plantation with mature forest and some native forest, with semi-cleared blocks. Riding tracks are
undulating, and many are becoming a little overgrown, but remain enjoyable.
There is a good network of gravel logging roads. Hills and rougher tracks exist
around the edges for the experienced rider. Much of the riding will be
off-road. Good route choice exists on especially the longer courses.
Event Type:
Local
event with set courses. Enter whatever length course is
desired.
Courses:
Short, Medium
and Long of around 8km, 13km and 18km respectively. Maps pre-marked. Solo riding.
Start Times:
Choose a start time when you arrive between 10.30am and 12noon. Two
minute start intervals.
Entry:
Pre-entry is required via “entryhub”. Enter on the day is available, but pre-entry
with entry fees paid at the event will assist the organiser
and is preferred. Entry is open to any rider who is a casual or full member of
Orienteering Tasmania – casual membership is available at the event and lasts
the calendar year.
Entry Fees:
Full members are adult $6, junior
/ concession $4, and family $16. Casual members are adult $10 and junior /
concession $5. Junior is under 21 as at 31/12/10.
Facilities:
There are no toilets or other facilities at Dry Poles Road. Nearest are at Ellendale or Westerway.

Instruction:
A short 15 minute instruction
session will be held for newcomers at 10am covering the basic format of MTBNav
events such as control card punching and map reading. Individual assistance
will be available at other times.
