March 13th (Sat): Tasmanian MTBNav Champs - Pillies
Road, Ellendale
Pillies Road is some 81kms from Hobart, about 14 kms north of Westerway, 5 kms north of Ellendale, and 5 kms south of Meadowbank Lake in the Derwent Valley, and runs to the west off Ellendale Road. Look for the street and orienteering signs at the junction of Pillies Road and Ellendale Road, then follow the orienteering signs along Pillies Road to the assembly area. Thanks to Norske Skog and Forestry Tasmania for access to the forests.
Description:
Course area is mainly pine plantation with mature forest and semi-cleared areas. Native forest exists along the creeks and in some other spots. There are some lovely riding tracks which are relatively flat, as well as a limited network of gravel logging roads. Hills and rougher tracks exist to challenge the experienced rider. Most of the riding will be off-road. Good route choice exists on especially the longer courses.
Event Type:
Tasmanian Championships for 2010 with set courses. Entry is by class divided into male or female and then by age. Junior is 21 and under, Open is 22 to 44 inclusive, Veteran is 45 to 59 inclusive, and Super Veteran is 60 and over.
Courses:
Short, Medium and Long of around 8km, 13km and 18km respectively. Maps pre-marked. Juniors will ride the short course, Veteran and Super Veteran medium along with Open Women, and Open Men the long. Participants can also enter any course other than that for their age, however, will be ineligible for the championship. Solo riding.
Start Times:
Choose a start time when you arrive between 10.30am and 12noon. Two minute start intervals.
Entry:
Pre-entry is required via “entryhub”. Enter on the day is available, but pre-entry with entry fees paid at the event will assist the organiser and is preferred. Entry is open to any rider who is a casual or full member of Orienteering Tasmania – casual membership is available at the event and lasts for the calendar year.
Entry Fees:
Full members are adult $11, junior / concession $9, and family $30. Casual members are adult $16 and junior / concession $11. Junior is under 21 as at 31/12/10.
Facilities:
There are no toilets or other facilities at Pillies Road. Nearest are at Ellendale.

Instruction:
A short 15 minute instruction session will be held for newcomers at 10am covering the basic format of MTBNav events such as control card punching and map reading. Individual assistance will be available at other times.
