OT Needs You - Become an Accredited Coach!

Orienteering Tasmania and its clubs need more qualified and motivated coaches. To become an accredited level 1 orienteering coach, one has to complete 3 course components within a 2-year period:

The general principles and sport specific components can be done in any order. The practical component comes last.

LEVEL 1 GENERAL PRINCIPLES COURSE

The accreditation process includes a “beginning coaching general principles course". The easiest way to do this course is online (free of charge). You can also do the course face to face with a training and business consortium in Hobart (their contact number is 6228 3555) but that involves paying a fee. When you complete the 5 modules, you'll receive a certificate of which you'll have to OT a copy.

LEVEL 1 SPORT SPECIFIC COURSE

Orienteering Tasmania is organising a one day Sport Specific Level 1 Coaching Course later this year. Expressions of interest are now invited from anyone who wishes to become an accredited Orienteering Coach.

Aim of the courses:
To develop sport specific coaching knowledge and skills for the beginner orienteering coach.

Topics covered:
The topics covered are map/terrain skills; navigational skills; compass skills; control procedures; competition skills.

Length of the course:
One full day (~6hrs).

Completion:
On completion of the course the participants will receive a Level 1 Sport Specific Coaching Certificate.

Resources:
The participants will receive all necessary material to complete the course. This includes a Course Syllabus and a Level 1 Coaching Manual.

Cost:
No fee. OT will pay for the cost of the course.

Delivery strategy:
Face to face, interactive participation. Some pre-course work will be required.
